WSCO is an organization of neighborhood volunteers working to address neighborhood issues. If we can help you address an issue on your block or in the neighborhood, or if you would like to take a leadership role on your block and in your neighborhood, call or stop in. Check the Upcoming Events calendar for more opportunities to get involved.
WSCO Board Meetings are the 2nd Monday of the Month from 7-9pm. Call WSCO or see 'Upcoming Events' page for location of meeting each month. The WSCO Board of Directors is composed of community members that are elected at the Annual Meeting each November. Call the office to see about getting more involved in your neighborhood district council by serving on our board.
We also invite you to consider joining one of WSCO's standing committees. Committees provide an avenue to meet other active West Siders and to work on a wide variety of projects that help to strengthen and preserve the things that make the West Side a great place to live, work, and play. Current WSCO committees include:
Building and Land Use (BLU) - (Meets 3rd Tuesday of the Month, 6-8pm @ WSCO office.) The BLU Committee focuses on how construction, development, and building improvements have an impact on our quality of life on the West Side. This group regularly makes recommendations to the Zoning Board, and the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Youth Committee - (Meets Every Monday at the WSCO office 5-7 pm, except WSCO Board Meeting nights) This committee gets youth involved in our community. Please stop by or contact Sam at the WSCO office to see how you can get involved. Young people, this means you!
Riverfront and Development (RD) - (Meets Last Thursday of each month, 6:30pm at the NeDA office on 481 S. Wabasha St.) The RD Committee works to coordinate the physical development efforts on the West Side with a particular focus on the Flats and the District Del Sol.
Environment Committee (EC)- (Meets 1st Thursday of the Month, 7-9pm @ Riverview Library) The Environment Committee works on a wide range of environmental issues from leading a campaign to improve the High Bridge Power Plant to removing invasive species of non-native plants from the West Side.
West Side 100 - (Meets 2nd Thursday of each month at WSCO office, 6:30-8:00pm) The WS100 committee is dedicated to encouraging 100 percent voter participation among West Side residents. It leads activities to educate citizens and encourage them in participating in the voting process.
Task groups and sub-committees are also formed on a regular basis to address specific projects and needs as they arise. For details about the upcoming committee meeting schedule, please check out the Upcoming Events page.
