Calling on 50 donors to honor 50 years of community power at WSCO
A letter from Sue, Monica, and Joy
Dear West Side Neighbor,
This year, we are celebrating an incredible milestone here on the West Side: 50 years of building community power with the West Side Community Organization (WSCO).
If we haven’t met yet, our names are Joy, Monica, and Sue, and we live here on the West Side and have seen the power of WSCO’s work in action. That’s why we decided to donate $500 each to support WSCO’s work into the future.
In honor of WSCO’s 50th Anniversary, we are calling on 50 people to join us in making a donation in an amount that’s meaningful to you. Big or small, every donation counts!
Donate here
“I donate to invest in our community and support changing systems so that all folks benefit.” – Monica Bryand, former WSCO board member, pictured above third from left leading a bird walk in Cherokee Park with WSCO’s Trans and Queer Community affinity group
In the past 50 years, we’ve accomplished some incredible things together– from saving Humboldt High School and the Riverview Library, to making sure the High Bridge was rebuilt, and Harriet Island was kept public. We’ve shut down toxic polluters, held developers to account, and grown flourishing networks of neighbors; neighbors who’ve fought side by side for housing justice, equitable development, environmental justice, and the rich cultural vitality that makes our neighborhood unique.
“When my grandkids say, ‘The West Side is the Best Side,’ it’s thanks to generations of West Siders who have shown up for our neighborhood. The work we do right here, right now, has a powerful impact on future generations, and that is why it is my privilege to support WSCO.” – Joy Sorensen Navarre
“I am proud to support WSCO’s efforts to build community power by organizing residents to make real change in our neighborhood.” Sue Letourneau, pictured above left with WSCO staff and board members planting trees on the West Side for Arbor Day
Help us reach our goal of 50 donors in honor of 50 years of community power! Your donation today secures a solid foundation for the future of the West Side.
With gratitude, and in community,
Joy Sorensen Navarre, former WSCO interim co-Executive Director
Monica Bryand, WSCO former WSCO board member
Sue Letourneau, WSCO Board Member
