West Siders call on the City to stand up for economic justice for the descendants of displacement in our neighborhood!
Last month, West Siders gathered for the release of a groundbreaking report on the history of displacement in our neighborhood. We signed cards calling on Mayor Carter to support the implementation of our 5 community recommendations, including economic redress for the families of over 2,000 people who lost their homes when the City and Port Authority tore down the West Side Flats to build an industrial park in the 1960s, and investment in economic justice for the entire West Side.
We believe in a future where development does not displace our community. The first step in building that more equitable future is for the City to take accountability for the harms of the past, and work to repair them. We hope to see that reflected in the upcoming City budget.
Take action: Join us to watch the Mayor’s 2025 budget address on Tuesday, August 13th at 10 a.m., inside the Target Atrium at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts (345 Washington Street). If you cannot attend, you can watch it live on the City of Saint Paul's YouTube page or online in the days following the address.Immediately following the address, join the Mayor in Rice Park for a community lunch with food trucks.
