West Side Decides: Our neighborhood, our voice, our future!
Everyday we make decisions big and small about where we will spend our time, our talents, our money
Here at WSCO we are making decisions too, both big and small, about where we play and live, our parks, our roads, our sidewalks. Big decisions about land use, economic development, and planning have too often been made without us. These are decisions about our quality of life, yours and mine, here on the West Side.
Our work is rooted in the power of everyday people, neighbors of all backgrounds, coming together to take an active role in deciding our shared future.
We believe that "nothing about us without us is for us," to quote South African disability rights activists. That means that West Siders deserve to have a voice in all decisionmaking spaces that impact our lives. Representation is important– half of the residents on the West Side are people of color, a third speak a language other than English, over half are under 30, and 13% have a disability (source: MN Compass). We want to build a base of neighbors who reflect the racial, economic, and age diversity of our community so that the powerful lived experiences and visions of West Siders aren't overlooked in planning decisions.
West Side Decides is a campaign encompassing three areas of our work:
The Equitable Development Scorecard
The West Side Community 10 Year Plan
