We are facing a period of rapid change, opportunities, and challenges when it comes to housing justice here in our neighborhood and across the city, state, and country.
West Side evictions are increasing. Rents are rising and we have seen a concerning increase in price gouging rent hikes in the neighborhood. After voters passed rent stabilization, we’re now facing challenges from Minnesota legislators.
But we’re still here, and we won’t stop joyfully organizing for the neighborhood West Siders deserve! Last week, WSCO Board Member and West Side tenant leader Myisha Holley (above) and Executive Director Monica Bravo traveled to Dallas for a national Renters Leadership Summit. We’re testifying to the MN Senate to defend rent stabilization, and invite you to take action and raise your voice. WSCO Board member Marcus Troy is joining Monica and Myisha on Mayor Carter’s Rent Stabilization Stakeholder Group. We’re organizing West Side renters to meet with Councilmember Noecker next week (join us!). And on March 26th, we’re rallying for Housing Justice.
Last but not least: we’re proud to announce that Housing Equity Now St. Paul (HENS) has been recognized with a 2022 National Low Income Housing Coalition’s National Organizing Award! As one of the founding members of HENS, WSCO is humbled and honored to attend the award ceremony and represent the West Side on the national stage. Stay tuned for details!
