It was awesome to see so many of our community leaders turn out for our first West Side Power organizing workshop last weekend! The workshop focused on deepening our organizing skills through an understanding of power and self interest, learning about WSCO's wins over the past 50 years, and sharing what we're up to in 2024.
Above: Monica Bravo, WSCO's Executive Director, spoke to workshop participants about understanding power from a community organizing perspective at our most recent West Side Power workshop.
Judy Brown reflected on the workshop: "I enjoyed meeting new people last week who are concerned about issues that impact their lives. The discussion around self-interest and what it means was very personal. Self interest is the basis for bringing many diverse people together to focus on a common goal. In all the previous organizing trainings over the years, I have never been exposed to such a ‘personal’ exercise around ‘what made me’ and ‘who I am.’ Every time I have been with current WSCO staff and board or committee members I am encouraged by the passion, talent and commitment you have."
We're excited to continue sharing tools to begin organizing our neighbors to help us build people power here on the West Side! Learn more about our 2024 campaigns.
