Hey West Side!

Thanks to all who came out to April's West Side Voices forum. Notes from the meeting will be posted soon. For now, here's a quick reportback on what we discussed, and links to learn more about what's happening here in the neighborhood!

We hope to see you for the next West Side Voices Forum, coming up on Tuesday, May 10th in person from 6:00pm- 8:00pm. RSVP here.

Met Council Incinerator Saint Paul

New Incinerator Planned Across the River

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) shared a presentation on the possible health and environmental impacts of adding a fourth sewage incinerator across the river. Learn more about the project here.

Contact MPCA presenters: [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]

Resources shared by neighbors:

  • Here is the link to the EAW that was completed at the time when the first three incinerators were installed.
  • There is a bill which is a part of the 2022 MN House omnibus environment and natural resources bill which would require an analysis of cumulative pollution and environmental justice areas before issuing a permit.  It is a very strong bill and very exciting if it were to be passed.  HF 3146 and omnibus HF4492.
  • Check out air quality monitors online if we ever wanted to measure our own local air quality.

Robert Street Construction

Beginning in May 2022, MnDOT will repair and resurface the Robert St./Hwy 3 bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks between Plato Blvd. and East Wood St. and repair the George St. bridge.

In summer 2022, MnDOT will also repair the viaduct between César Chávez and King St. E. Each project will take between 6-8 weeks to complete.

The Robert St. viaduct, George St. and the Union Pacific bridge will be closed and detoured during construction. Local access will be maintained for residents and businesses.

In-person open house: Tue, April 26, 5-7 p.m., Wellstone Center, 179 Robie St. E., St. Paul, MN 55107
