WS Community Advisory Council

WSCO invites you to join the West Side Community Advisory Council to support the following:

  • Telling the full story of economic, social, and cultural displacement on the West Side.
  • Identifying reparative solutions that provide direct support to impacted community members.

In the last year, the West Side Community Organization (WSCO) has conducted a series of historical interviews on the displacement from the West Side Flats in the early 1960s to begin the work of telling the communities story. In addition, WSCO has partnered with Research in Action (RIA), a company created to reclaim the power of research by centering community expertise. RIA will work with the WSCO team to support the West Side Community Advisory Council in painting a fuller picture of the current state of the West Side neighborhoods for the purpose of identifying what reparative solutions the community seek in order to restore and heal itself.

To be considered for this council, complete our Call for Collaboration Survey by February 14th

The Redress & Repair Advisory Council and its members are important for the following reasons:

  • Advisory Council members provide expert guidance and support
  • Advisory Council members are closest to the problem and are therefore closest to the solutions.

To acknowledge the efforts put in by Advisory Council members, WSCO and RIA will compensate each member with a stipend of $50 per Advisory Council meeting attended. We plan to host Advisory Council meetings once per month for 2-hours each session until December 2023.

We have a limited number of seats at this table and we hope to fill 8-10 seats. We are particularly interested in ensuring that we have current residents, historic residents or descendants of historic residents, and those that work, play, and worship in the community to ensure we have a diverse representation of voices at the table.

If you are interested in being a member of the Advisory Council please fill out this survey by Tuesday, February 14, 2023. All information provided in this form will be kept confidential.

We will notify all those that submit this interest form by Monday, February 20th, 2023 if they have been chosen to participate on the Redress and Repair Advisory Council. If you are chosen please be prepared to attend the first Advisory Council meeting, which is scheduled for Tuesday, February 28th from 6-8pm.

Thank you so much for your interest,

WSCO and RIA
